If you own a motorcycle and prefer to take care of it yourself, you must be aware of the importance of cleaning the bike’s braking system. Your motorbike brake discs are vulnerable to debris on the road that can cause long-term damage if not cleaned regularly. Not only this but, excess oil, grease & brake fluid can start to build up in the discs, calipers & other components of the braking system. This gunk buildup impacts the performance of your bike negatively & can also be dangerous. Therefore, motorbike maintenance not only keeps you safe on the road but also extends the life of your bike. The process of cleaning the brake discs is simple and consists of 4 small steps.
Clean cloth
Old toothbrush
To clean your motorcycle’s brake discs, sit in your garage or outdoors. Place your bike on a workshop crutch so that it is held securely throughout the maintenance. Finally, assemble all the things you will need to clean the brake discs at hand. It includes the WD-40 Fast Acting Degreaser, an old toothbrush & a dry, clean cloth
First & foremost, shake WD-40 Specialist Fast Acting Degreaser. Spray over the entire brake disc. The product will act quickly and break down the dust, grease and oil residues, and other dirt. Allow the product to work and then rub with a soft-bristled brush or an old toothbrush. Then use a clean, dry cloth to wipe the disc and remove any product residue.
In addition to cleaning the brake discs of your bike, we advise you to clean the stirrups. To do this, you need to remove them from the brake discs. Then apply the WD-40 Specialist Fast Acting Degreaser to the stirrup. Use a toothbrush to work in the product & clean the grease buildup & dust residue. Then wipe with a clean, dry cloth. Finally, pull the stirrups up on the discs.
Once your brake discs are clean, we strongly advise you to test your bike’s braking system before you venture on a ride. Turn on your bike’s engine and check the front and rear brakes if they are working or not.
