The first step is to unplug the refrigerator and empty it. Discard all the food that has mold visible on it. Detach & remove the shelves, racks, and glass compartments.
Remove food from the freezer and place it in a cooler. For ice build-up on the walls, ceilings & floor of the freezer, you can use hot water. Keep rolled towels at the edge of the freezer. Pour hot water over the ice mounds and when it melts, use the towels to soak them. After removing all the ice, you will find frozen sticky puddles at the bottom. Food spills & drips from soft drinks cause these puddles to become sticky. Soaking is your best friend. Use towels soaked in hot water and place them on the icy puddles. Once they start to break away, you can scrape or scrub using a putty knife or spoon.
To clean the racks & shelves, fill a tub with hot water & dissolve some liquid soap to make a frothy solution.
Now immerse them in this tub & scrub using a sponge or toothbrush. Once the racks & shelves are clean, rinse with clean water & allow them to air dry. Avoid putting the racks & shelves in hot water while they are cold, as it may cause them to crack or break.
For sticky residues, mold deposits & food stains, WD-40 Multi-use Product is your ideal choice. Spray it on the stained areas & then wipe using a microfiber cloth to remove all the gunk & stains.
Now dissolve some baking soda in hot water to make a solution. Dip a clean cloth in this solution and wipe the interior of the refrigerator & the freezer. It will not only help to remove the remaining residue and leftover WD-40 product; but also eliminate any unpleasant odors.
Pay attention to the seal on the doors as mold gets deeply set in these areas. Spray WD-40 Multi-use Product on the mildew deposits & use a toothbrush to scrub it. The toothbrush bristles will provide easy access to the crevices in the door seals. Then wipe with a cloth dipped in baking-soda solution.
After thorough cleaning, spray a little WD-40 Specialist lubricant in a cloth and apply on the seals. This will keep the seals lubricated and protected. (Ensure not to spray in order to avoid incidental contact with food)
If baking soda is not available, you can make a diluted solution of white vinegar and use it instead. Vinegar also helps remove the remaining residue, sanitize the interior & eliminate odors.
Once the refrigerator & the freezer is clean, allow it to air dry for a few minutes before closing the door & focusing your attention on the exterior.
Now it’s time to pay attention to the door, handle & exterior walls of the refrigerator. WD-40 Multi-use Product will come in handy at this step too!
Spray it on a microfiber cloth & wipe down all the areas thoroughly. Then finish off with a damp cloth to remove any excess product or remaining residue. If you have a stainless-steel exterior, WD-40 Multi-use Product will also help to make the surface shine as bright as new.
