Cement is one of the components of concrete that acts as an adhesive to bind gravel and sand. When concrete mixes with water, a reaction occurs that results in concrete getting cured or, in simple words, it hardens. Ideally, clean the concrete splatters before the curing reaction occurs. To do that, clean the metal surface with water to remove the cement. It will wash right off from the surface.
It is relatively easy to dissolve large chunks of concrete that may have cured over metal surfaces. You can remove these larger splatters by using mechanical means such as tapping over the surface with a cold hammer or chisel.
A less aggressive way is to soak the tools in soapy water or lubricate them. After this, gently use a metal putty knife with a smooth edge to scrape the cement from the metal. Another thing we’d like to mention here is that removing smaller chunks from metal is much easier than removing larger ones.
Once cured, concrete tends to discolor and adhere to metal surfaces. Removing these discolored formations is a job for chemical products such as WD-40 Multi-use Product. It is safe to use on a metal object because it consists of weaker acids. Spray the chemical on the cement formations and leave it for some time. Then scrape them off using a putty knife.
Concrete cleaners are industrial products and, before using these, we recommend that you carefully read the directions. You can apply some concrete cleaners on dry surfaces, while others you need to mix with water. Concrete cleaners are strong chemicals. Therefore you should wear eyewear and protective clothing before you use them. Sometimes, these products release poisonous fumes when they react with the concrete. You may need the help of a respirator.
The average time each of these products takes is 10 to 15 minutes – after which you’ll notice that it removes cement from metal. While disposing of the remnants of these products, you should make sure that you neutralize them. The best way to do this is to collect the remnants in a bucket, then add water and lime or baking soda.
