Things you will need:

Ice Cubes, Blunt Knife/Scraper

Take the ice cube and rub it on the gum until it has hardened completely. Then use a blunt knife or a spoon to scrape it off. Please make sure that you quickly remove the gum once hardened. Because if it starts to warm-up again, it will become sticky. A quick tip is to place 2 ice cubes on either side of the cloth in a way that the gum becomes sandwiched in between. This will ensure that the temperature doesn’t go up during scraping.

If your freezer is not crammed with meat and frozen vegetables then you can also use it an alternate method to freeze off the gum. Fold the cloth in a way that the part with the gum is exposed and on the outside of the fold. Place it in a plastic bag and put in the freezer for a few hours, till the gum hardens. Now scrape it off using the knife/scraper.

Works Best on:

This method works best on clothes that are dry cleaned or washed with hands. After you have removed the gum, if you find a stain, get it dry cleaned or hand washed.

Please make sure to use blunt knife/scraper to make sure that the garment is not harmed. Also try to be as gentle as possible while scraping.

2.     Using Heat to Remove Chewing Gum from clothes

Now this method is completely opposite to what we discussed above. It uses heat to make the chewing gum softer and almost pliable.

Things you will need:

Hairdryer, gloves, White vinegar (Diluted with water), liquid washing soap

Take a hairdryer & blast it directly on the area with the gum. When the gum starts to melt, you need to peel it off from the clothes. The gum maybe pretty hot, therefore avoid using your hands directly on the melted gum. Instead you can use gloves or a plastic bag to hold it.

After the chewing gum has been removed, mix equal parts of white vinegar (diluted with water) & liquid washing soap. Rub this mixture directly on the affected area, then allow it to sit on the fabric for at least 15-20 minutes. Now, wash the garment like you usually do.

Before drying the cloth, check the stain and if it is still there, repeat the above process again.

3.     Using Iron to Remove Chewing Gum from Clothes

The 3rd tip is to use an iron to remove gum.

Things you will need:

Iron, cardboard piece

This is also a relatively simple way to remove chewing gum. Place a cardboard piece on a flat surface or an ironing board. Make sure that the cardboard is clean. Now place the piece of fabric with the gum on the cardboard piece. The gum-side needs to be facing down. Iron the garment using medium heat settings. Too much heat will turn the gum into a sticky mess. While less heat will not be enough to melt it through. Once the gum has melted, it will stick to the cardboard piece and you need to gently peel the garment away. Viola! You have successfully removed the gum from your clothes without creating any mess.
